Student Right to Privacy Information
JWCC student records are considered to be confidential information and their release is governed by the Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA). Specific information about student rights under FERPA can be found in the “Statement of Confidentiality and Privacy Rights of Students in Education Records” section of the JWCC catalog.
JWCC directory information under FERPA includes the students name; address; telephone number; place of birth; major field of study; participation in officially recognized activities and sports; weight and height of members of athletic teams; dates of attendance; degrees and awards received (including scholarships) and the most recent previous educational agency or institution attended by the student.
Students must submit a formal written request to the college registrar to withhold JWCC directory information from public release.
Release of confidential (non-directory) information:
Students may authorize the college to release confidential information to a 3rd party. Such a request must be made in writing and include the student’s signature. The attached Third Party Release Form may be used for that purpose.
