SGA BY-LAWS

I.     ELECTION INFORMATION

  1. Election information will be available to the regularly schedule February SGA meeting.
  2. Candidates interested for campaigning for an elected office must submit a letter of intent by the first Monday in March to the Coordinator of Student Life.
  3. All candidates are required to participate in Candidates Forum, which will be held one hour prior to the regular scheduled March meeting
  4. Candidates are permitted to campaigning the day after following the forum and will concluded at 5:00 pm the day before voting.
  5. Voting will begin the first school day in April and continue for four consecutive academic days.
  6. All candidates will be notified of election results the following academic day.
  7. Officers-elect will shadow their respective office at the following SGA meeting.
  8. Officers-elect will be seated at end of year banquet

 

  1. II.                 ELECTION RULES
    1. A mandatory election rules meeting will be held for all candidates before they are permitted to begin campaigning.
    2. Candidates are responsible for creating their campaign materials. All campaign materials must be approved and stamped by the office of the Vice President for Student Services prior to distribution. Materials placed in unauthorized areas will be removed. Please reference the sign posting guidelines for more detailed instructions.
    3. The SGA election, along with photos of each candidate will be promoted via Blazer vision, SGA social media, and JWCC webpages. Each candidate is required to have a photo on file in the Student Life Center (D104) prior to the start of the election.

 

  1. III.               ADVISOR
    1. The SGA advisor must have, minimally, one advisor present whenever official business is conducted.
    2. The primary advisor will be the Coordinator of Student Life; in their absence a JWCC faculty or staff member will be appointed to act as advisor.
    3. The duties of the Advisor include but are not limited to:
      1. To advise the Student Government Association
      2. To advise the Executive Team;
      3. To advise the Inter-Club Council;
      4. To oversee all Blazer Student Organizations;
      5. To advise advisors of student organizations;
      6. To be present at all SGA meetings and functions.

 

  1. IV.               OFFICERS
    1. Requirements:
      1. All SGA Executive Members must be enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours;
      2. Maintain a minimum a grade point average of a 2.5;
      3.  Any member falling below these standards shall be granted one semester on probation in order to raise his/her academic standing. After one semester, if the minimum requirements are not met, he/she shall be removed from their leadership position.
  2. Tuition Waivers:
    1. Tuition waivers shall be awarded to SGA officers based on JWC Board policy.
    2. The President and Student Trustee are eligible to receive up to one full-tuition waiver for his/her term of office;
    3. Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer are eligible to receive up to one half-tuition waiver for his/her term of office;
    4. Activities Chairperson is a volunteer position and will not receive a tuition waiver.
  3. Duties of All Offices
    1. To be aware of the needs, opinions, and concerns of the student body and report them to SGA;
    2. To attend all SGA meetings and participate fully by voting or recommending action on issues;
    3. To be prepared for all meetings by reading the minutes and agenda in advance, and by arriving on time;
    4. To notify the advisor in advance if he/she will be absent from a meeting;
    5. To serve on committees and participate in activities that support the SGA;
    6. To support and oversee student organizations as well and the intramural program;
    7. To have a sincere interest in the welfare of the student body and assist students with grievances;
    8. To recruit new SGA members;
    9. To have a working knowledge of the SGA Constitution, Bylaws, and parliamentary procedures;
    10. To participate in orientation and training sessions for officers and SGA members;
    11. To abide by the SGA Constitution, Bylaws, and JWCC regulations while striving for academic success;
    12. To consult and confer regularly with the SGA advisor, and remember that the activities of the organization should be planned and carried out by the students, not the advisor.
    13. V.                 MEMBERS
      1. Requirements
        1. All SGA members must be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credit hours;
        2. Must maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.5.
  4. Duties of Members
    1. To attend all SGA meetings and participate fully by voting or recommending action on issues;
    2. To notify the advisor in advance if he/she will be absent from a meeting;
    3. To serve on committees and participate in activities that support the SGA;
    4. To have a sincere interest in the welfare of the student body and assist students with grievances;
    5. To recruit new SGA members;
    6. To have a general knowledge of the SGA Constitution, Bylaws, and parliamentary procedures;
    7. To abide by the SGA Constitution, Bylaws, and JWCC regulations while striving for academic success
    8. To consult and confer regularly with the Executive Team, Advisor, and other members and remember that the activities of the organization should be planned and carried out by its members.
