Golden K Kiwanis to Hold Second “Stars of Tomorrow” Talent Show at JWCC
The second annual "Stars of Tomorrow" Talent Show will be presented by the Golden K Kiwanis Club Saturday November 22, 2014 at 7 p.m. in the Mary Ellen Orr Auditorium at John Wood Community College.
“Stars of Tomorrow” is currently accepting entries from performers 14-21 years of age for the competition, which will award a total of $1,000 in cash prizes. Performing acts can range from vocalists and bands to stand-up comedians and dancers. Acts must be three to five minutes in length and only family friendly performances will be accepted. Entry forms have been distributed to all area high schools and colleges, but are also available online at www.jwcc.edu/talent.
Entries are due with a $10 fee per act by Nov. 10, 2014 and can be mailed to Quincy Golden K Kiwanis Stars of Tomorrow c/o JWCC Public Relations, Quincy, Ill. 62305.
“Stars of Tomorrow” will be produced by Matt Gabriel, marching band director for Quincy Senior High School. Dan Sherman, veteran choir director, performer and member of the Quincy Park Band, will serve as technical advisor. Master of ceremonies will be WGEM’s Brian Inman.
“Golden K is part of a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and community at a time,” Ron Dedert, event chairman said. “We think showcasing the talent of our youth at this event is a fun way to change their lives for the better while providing the community with an entertaining evening. It’s our hope that the show will become part of everyone’s Thanksgiving plans.”
Members of Golden K are in 80 countries, stage 150,000 service projects and raise $100 million every year to support youth, communities and families. The Quincy club meets at 9 a.m. every Monday at the Quincy Senior and Family Resource Center.
A team of judges will narrow down entries to 15 acts that will be invited to compete for prizes in the “Stars of Tomorrow” Talent Show.
The show is being co-sponsored by Golden K Kiwanis Club and JWCC. Cash awards of $500.00 for first prize, $250.00 for second, $100.00 for third and $150.00 for "Peoples’ Choice" will be awarded.
