Golden K Kiwanis to Hold Fifth “Stars of Tomorrow” Talent Show at JWCC
The fifth annual "Stars of Tomorrow" Talent Show will be presented by the Quincy Golden K Kiwanis Club Sunday May 6, 2017 at 4 p.m. in the Mary Ellen Orr Auditorium at John Wood Community College.
“Stars of Tomorrow” is currently accepting entries from performers in two categories: grades 6 – 9 (ages 12-15) and grades 10 – 14 (ages 16- 21) for the competition, which will award a total of $1,200 in prizes. Performing acts can range from vocalists and bands to stand-up comedians and dancers. Acts must be three to five minutes in length and only family friendly performances will be accepted. Entry forms have been distributed to all area high schools and colleges, but are also available online at www.jwcc.edu/talent.
Entries are due with a $10 fee per act by April 27, 2018, and can be mailed to Quincy Golden K Kiwanis, Stars of Tomorrow, 7332 State Hwy 96 N, Quincy, IL 62305.
“Stars of Tomorrow” will be produced by Matt Gabriel, marching band director for Quincy Senior High School. Dan Sherman, veteran choir director, performer and member of the Quincy Park Band, will serve as technical advisor. Master of ceremonies will be Brian Inman.
“Golden K Kiwanis is part of a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and community at a time,” Ron Dedert, event chairman said. “We think showcasing the talent of our youth at this event is a fun way to change their lives for the better while providing the community with an entertaining evening.”
Members of Kiwanis are in 80 countries, stage 150,000 service projects, and raise $100 million every year to support youth, communities and families. The Quincy club meets at 9 a.m. every Monday at the Quincy Senior and Family Resource Center.
A team of judges will narrow down entries to 30 acts that will be invited to compete for prizes in the “Stars of Tomorrow” Talent Show.
The show is being co-sponsored by Golden K Kiwanis Club and JWCC. Awards for first, second, third and "Peoples’ Choice" will be given in each category.
