Celebrate the institution of Inclusive Post Secondary Education Day with College for Life, with guest speaker Mayor Linda Moore.
John Wood Community College’s College for Life (CFL) program has initiated a citywide recognition of Inclusive Postsecondary Education (IPSE) Day, highlighting efforts to expand access to college for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
JWCC will host a campus celebration on Thursday, April 30, from 10 to 11 a.m. The event will begin with a social gathering from 10 to 10:30 a.m. featuring refreshments prepared with support from CFL students. A brief ceremony will follow at 10:30 a.m., including remarks from Mayor Moore, JWCC representatives and CFL students.
IPSE programs are designed to provide students with intellectual disabilities access to college experiences, academics, and career preparation. JWCC’s College for Life program offers students opportunities to build skills for employment and independent living while participating in campus life.
“Recognizing IPSE Day is one way to increase awareness and understanding of inclusive education,” said Julie Quinn, CFL coordinator. “Our goal is to continue creating opportunities so more students can access college in ways that meet their needs.”
IPSE Day will be recognized nationally on May 1.
