Program has Capacity to Support More First-Generation and Underserved Students
The Academic Talent Search (ATS) program at John Wood Community College is one of three federal TRiO grants that impact hundreds of regional junior high and high school students as they prepare to pursue higher education.
JWCC’s ATS program identifies and assists students from underserved backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education. Currently, the program serves 670 students providing free academic, career, and financial guidance and has capacity to serve dozens more.
“Our goal is to reach as many students as possible to help them get into a path toward a college education,” ATS Manager Kristi Stadler shared. “We offer free services to make sure students have the skills and knowledge they need to overcome barriers to entering college and are seeking more students to take advantage of this free opportunity.”
Talent Search works with JWCC district high schools offering opportunities for students to explore postsecondary options, academic coaching, develop financial literacy, and receive assistance with college admissions and financial aid applications.
Program Highlights Include:
Upcoming program events include cooking classes, QHS Musical, ATS academy for junior high and high school students, self-defense classes and college campus visits.
