JWCC Truck Driver Training Program Now Offering Hazmat Endorsement Training

New federal minimum training requirements for CDL drivers took effect earlier this year. The new regulations require individuals obtaining a hazmat endorsement for the first time to complete specific theory instruction prior to taking the required knowledge test. The truck driver training program at JWCC is offering a new training course which meets the FMCSA requirements. Students must be a minimum of 21 years of age to enroll.

The training will cover basic introductory and operational hazardous materials requirements, reporting hazardous materials crashes and releases, tunnels and railroad-highway grade crossing requirements, loading and unloading hazardous materials, hazardous materials on passenger vehicles, bulk packages, operating emergency equipment, emergency response procedures, engine (fueling), tire check, routes and route planning, and hazardous materials safety permits (HMSP).

This will be a two-week online class with one in-person class day. A class is scheduled to begin Monday, June 6, with the in-person day on Saturday, June 18, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost of the class is $173 per person, which includes the textbook. Individuals will need to go for a fingerprint/background check before taking the endorsement test. There is an additional cost of $86.50 payable to TSA.

To register, students should contact the truck driver training office by calling 217.641.4971 or emailing tdt@jwcc.edu. To find out more information about the Class A, Class B, and Hazmat courses at John Wood visit www.jwcc.edu/truck.
