March 3, 2020

John Wood Community College’s Fine Arts Department will hold auditions for music scholarships and portfolio reviews for visual arts scholarships on Friday, April 24.

High school seniors, first-time college students and transfer students from other colleges interested in auditioning for full or partial instrumental or vocal scholarships to JWCC for the 2020-21 academic year are encouraged to register before April 3 for priority appointments. Students may also audition on the day of the event without an appointment.

Individual auditions will be held in 15 minute sessions from 10:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Check-in will be right outside the Mary Ellen Orr Auditorium inside the Heath Community Education and Fine Arts Center on the Quincy campus at 48th and Harrison.

Students should prepare at least two contrasting vocal or instrumental pieces for the audition. An accompanist will be provided, but students may bring their own if preferred.

For information and to set an appointment for a music audition, contact Dr. Steven Soebbing, JWCC instructor of music and theatre, at 217.641.4999 or ssoebbing@jwcc.edu.

Visual arts scholarships are also available for high school seniors, first-time college students and transfer students from other colleges who major in art or graphic design at JWCC during the 2020-21 academic year. Students may have portfolios reviewed on the day of the event without an appointment.

Portfolio reviews will take place by appointment only on Thursday April 23. Portfolios should include 8 to 15 completed pieces of students’ very best work. Students should be prepared to discuss the thought process behind their work as well as the methods used and time spent on each piece. Portfolios may also be reviewed on April 24 from 9:00 a.m. to noon without an appointment.

For information and to schedule an appointment, contact Chris Wiewel, JWCC chair of fine arts, at 217.641.4517 or wiewelc@jwcc.edu.
