An internship is an ideal opportunity for a JWCC student to experience a prospective career path and earn college credit. Internships provide the best setting to develop and refine industry specific-skills and can be an important part of the academic process. Students gain practical experience by applying methods and theories learned in the classroom. Internships can be paid or unpaid and typically range from 80-320 hours on the job.
These internships provide great on the job experience, but do not earn college credit. This is a great option for students whose programs don’t require an internship but would like to make connections and sharpen their skills.
These internships provide job experience as well as college credit. They vary from 1-4 credit hours and students earn one credit hour for every 80 hours. Students will be charged for their internship based on the number of credit hours, just as any other credit class.
Students who have previously completed an apprenticeship or non-credit internship and would like to have it count toward a degree requirement may qualify to have that experience transcripted via Credit for Prior Learning.
Career Services can help connect you with potential internship opportunities in your area of study, but it is the student’s responsibility to secure them.
