Job Description
This is a part-time position that reports to the Director of Athletics. This position is located on the JWCC campus in Quincy, Illinois and requires travel. The one-year, renewable position begins upon hire.
John Wood Community College (JWCC) is seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to serve as the Head Coach for the Women’s Volleyball program. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of developing and leading a competitive NJCAA Division II volleyball program that reflects JWCC’s commitment to academic and athletic excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, organize, and manage all phases of the women’s volleyball program, including but not limited to recruiting, practice planning, player development, game strategy, and academic monitoring.
- Recruit and retain high-quality student-athletes who align with the mission and academic standards of JWCC.
- Supervise assistant coaches and ensure compliance with all NJCAA, MWAC conference, and JWCC rules and regulations.
- Monitor student-athletes’ academic progress and support their personal development.
- Coordinate team travel, equipment inventory, game scheduling, and budget management.
- Promote a culture of sportsmanship, inclusivity, and respect on and off the court.
- Engage with the community and college through camps, clinics, and outreach events.
- Collaborate with the athletic department, admissions, and academic support staff to ensure student success.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Coaching experience at the collegiate, high school, or club level; head coaching experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of volleyball rules, strategies, and training methods.
- Demonstrated ability to recruit and develop student-athletes.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Skills & Competencies:
- Experience at the NJCAA or NCAA level.
- CPR/First Aid certification.
- Experience with Hudl, scouting software, and performance analytics.
Working Conditions:
- The Head Women’s Volleyball Coach will work in a combination of indoor environments, including office settings and gymnasiums.
- The role involves frequent standing, walking, running, and other physical activities related to coaching and training athletes.
- Must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Evening and weekend hours are required to accommodate practices, games, and travel for competitions.
- Travel is required for away games and recruiting activities, which may include overnight stays.
- The position requires effective communication and interaction with student-athletes, coaching staff, and the public.
Work Schedule:
- Part-time, 10-month or 12-month position with a varying schedule.
SALARY:
- Estimated yearly contract is $11,000.00 per year based on part-time hours.
