John Wood Community College held its fifty-first annual commencement ceremony on Friday, May 15, at 6:00 p.m. in the Student Activity Center on the Quincy Campus at 48th and Harrison.
JWCC honored 391 associate degrees, 273 certificates and 4 College for Life certificates. Dr. Aron Potter, JWCC President, conferred degrees and certificates and Mr. Andy Sprague, chair of the JWCC Board of Trustees, accepted candidates as graduates.
Ms. Emma Vick of Allen County, Kentucky, delivered the invocation. She was a member of the Student Government Association, a Trail Blazer Scholar, and a student-athlete on the women’s soccer and basketball teams. Vick will graduate with high honors, earning Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, and Associate in Applied Science degrees in Computer-Aided Design. She plans to attend Western Kentucky University to study architecture.
Mr. Brennen Hills of Quincy delivered the student address. He was active in the Quincy community through service on the City of Quincy’s Strategic Task Force on Housing and as co-founder of Q-RILE, a citizen-led referendum organization. Hills was also involved with Quincy Community Theatre, appearing in productions including The Addams Family, Frozen, and Murder on the Orient Express. He will earn an Associate in Arts Degree and plans to transfer to Western Illinois University to pursue a Bachelor of Social Work Degree.
Ms. Libby Goodwin of Quincy delivered the closing remarks. She was a member of Phi Theta Kappa honor society, a 2024–26 Presidential Scholar, and a student-athlete on the women’s volleyball team. Goodwin earned an Associate in Arts Degree with highest honors. She also worked at PACT Head Start, reflecting her interest in education and child development. She plans to transfer to Culver-Stockton College to pursue a degree in education and continue her volleyball career.
Dr. Han Cheol Kang, JWCC fine arts instructor of music, played processional and recessional selections and led the JWCC Choir in performing the National Anthem.
Degrees awarded include Associate in Arts, Associate in Fine Arts, Associate in Engineering Science, Associate in Science, Associate in Applied Science, College for Life non-credit certificates, and Certificates.
