Step back in time and explore the vital role nature played in the journey to freedom on the Underground Railroad. We will tour the Dr. Richard Eels’ historic home, a key stop on the Underground Railroad, and investigate streams and woodlands that provided shelter and guidance to freedom seekers. Discover how Quincy’s unique geography made it a pivotal location in these courageous journeys and visit the New Philadelphia National Historic Site to uncover more stories of resilience and hope. Through hands-on activities and exploration, history and nature come alive. This class will be held as various historic sites and transportation will be provided. The bus leaves JWCC at 10:00am and returns at 11:50am. The final day of class, the bus will leave at 9:00am for a field trip to New Philadelphia and returns at 11:50am. This class is made possible through a partnership with the University of Illinois Extension and the Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County
