Job Description

Position: Part-time Middle School Teacher
Supervisor: Principal
Location: As assigned by Principal

Position Summary: Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in education or related field. The teacher is responsible for planning and implementing an appropriate educational program for the children assigned to his/her class, following the guidelines of the school approved curriculum and course of study. The teacher is also responsible to fulfill assigned duties and tasks, attend designated in-service programs and calendared school events, and abide by the terms of contract and policies of the school. Other qualifications include the passion to work with students, exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, creative, resourceful, and a flexible team member.

Content areas of instruction are negotiable based on candidates strengths and experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Instruction & Classroom Management
• Develop and deliver engaging, standards-based lessons that align with our school curriculum and Christian worldview.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and disciplined learning environment that supports academic and faith development.
• Use differentiated instruction to meet diverse learning needs and abilities.
• Use innovative teaching strategies to enhance student engagement and intentionally integrate the use of technology.

Assessment & Student Support
• Assess student progress through formal and informal methods, providing timely feedback to students and families.
• Maintain accurate records of student achievement, behavior, and attendance; post grades weekly.
• Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress, concerns, and celebrations.
• Collaborate with school staff to support students’ academic and personal development.
• Administer standardized tests, analyze student performance and integrate data into instructional planning

Faith Integration & Spiritual Development
• Model Christian values and demonstrate a strong personal faith.
• Lead students in daily prayer, devotions, and biblical discussions.
• Encourage students to grow in their faith and develop a Christ-centered worldview.
• Align instruction with the doctrine of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.

Professional Responsibilities
• Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
• Work collaboratively with other teachers, staff, and church leadership.
• Adhere to school policies, procedures, and the mission of Lutheran education.
• Maintain a high standard of professionalism, ethics, and confidentiality.
• Communicate a positive impression of St. James Lutheran Church and School in the community and online presence.

Qualifications

Personal Faith Life
• Maintain a personal prayer/devotional life.
• Congregational membership at St. James Lutheran Church (called) or demonstrate engagement
in the communal life of a local Christian church (contracted).
• Consistently engage in the spiritual and communal life of St. James Lutheran Church.

Credentials
• Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
• Valid state teaching certification (preferred).
• Lutheran Teacher’s Diploma (preferred).
• Clean Background Check.
• Experience teaching in a Christian or Lutheran school setting (preferred).
• Strong classroom management and instructional skills.
• Passion for Christian education and student development.

All school employees must have:
• A current medical examination with TB test
• Background check
• Other forms required by DCFS
