Job Description

Police Officer Minimum Requirements:

  • $25 non-refundable application fee.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license with a good driving history.
  • Must be 21-35 years of age unless exempt under 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6.
  • Must have at least 60 credit hours or an associate degree from an accredited college/university.
    • Education requirements may be waived if the applicant has served at least two years of active military service. Proof of active military service will be required, as well as proof of an honorable discharge if the applicant is separated from the military.
  • No criminal record.
  • Must have excellent moral character.
  • Vision correctable to 20/20.
  • FOID Card eligible at time of hire.
  • Applicants must hold a valid POWER Card issued within 12 months prior to the application deadline. POWER Cards are considered valid if dated 5/2/2023 – 5/2/2024. Contact NIPSTA, Triton College or Joliet Jr. College for additional information on obtaining a POWER card.
