Job Description
This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt position that reports to the Dean of Business, Allied Health, and Public Services and is located at the Quincy Campus in Quincy, Illinois. Position begins immediately.
John Wood Community College (JWCC) is seeking an innovative and experienced Director of Nursing to lead our high-quality, student-centered nursing program. The Director will be responsible for the overall administration, planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN), Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN), and Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) programs. This position plays a key leadership role in ensuring compliance with accreditation standards, maintaining program excellence, and supporting student success.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide visionary leadership for the nursing programs, fostering a culture of academic excellence and continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and other regulatory agencies.
- Responsible for conducting and writing program and accreditation reviews and finalizes the reports for the nursing programs.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate nursing faculty and staff.
- Develop and maintain clinical partnerships with healthcare providers to ensure quality clinical experiences.
- Lead curriculum development and assessment efforts.
- Manage program budgets and resources effectively.
- Teaches in the ADN program up to 8 credit hours per semester.
- Collaborate with college leadership to support enrollment, retention, and graduation goals.
- Represent JWCC’s nursing programs in community, regional, and state-level meetings and initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) required.
- Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois or eligibility for licensure.
Experience:
- Minimum of two years of full-time professional nursing experience and two years of experience in nursing education, with some leadership or administrative experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of nursing accreditation and regulatory requirements.
- Experience in curriculum development, demonstrated knowledge and experience in the assessment of student learning, scheduling and budgeting, and faculty development preferred.

- Demonstrated history of on-time delivery of projects; project coordination; and anticipation of issues.
- Must have the ability to work as a team member, foster a cooperative work environment, and maintain effective relationships.
Working Conditions:
The Director of Nursing position operates in a professional office and academic environment within John Wood Community College’s Health Sciences division. This role involves a combination of office duties, classroom oversight, and visits to clinical partner sites. The position requires the ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends, to accommodate program needs, faculty schedules, or community events.
- Primarily sedentary work performed in an office or classroom setting with frequent use of computers and standard office equipment.
- Occasional walking, standing, and travel between campus buildings and clinical sites.
- Regular interaction with students, faculty, staff, healthcare partners, and community stakeholders.
- Requires the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic and evolving educational environment.
- May involve lifting of materials or equipment up to 25 pounds.
Work Schedule:
- The position requires the ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends, to accommodate program needs, faculty schedules, or community events.
SALARY:
- This is an exempt position with an estimated annual salary of $60,000.00 – $75,000.00.
