Job Description

This is a part-time position that reports to the Head Women’s Volleyball Coach and Director of Athletics. This position is located on the JWCC campus in Quincy, Illinois and requires travel.  The one-year, renewable position begins upon hire.

 

John Wood Community College (JWCC) is seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to serve as the Assistant Coach for the Women’s Volleyball program. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of developing and leading a competitive NJCAA Division II volleyball program that reflects JWCC’s commitment to academic and athletic excellence.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Coach with practice planning, instruction, and game strategy
  • Support day-to-day operations of the volleyball program, including travel coordination and equipment management
  • Participate in recruitment of qualified student-athletes, both regionally and nationally
  • Foster a positive and inclusive team culture focused on discipline, accountability, and student development
  • Promote academic success, sportsmanship, and adherence to NJCAA and institutional rules and regulations
  • Help organize and supervise off-season workouts, open gyms, and strength training programs
  • Represent the volleyball program positively in the community and at College events
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Athletic Director

 

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Coaching experience at the collegiate, high school, or club level.
  • Strong knowledge of volleyball rules, strategies, and training methods.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

 

Working Conditions:

  • The Assistant Women’s Volleyball Coach will work in a combination of indoor environments, including office settings and gymnasiums.
  • The role involves frequent standing, walking, running, and other physical activities related to coaching and training athletes.
  • Must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Evening and weekend hours are required to accommodate practices, games, and travel for competitions.
  • Travel is required for away games and recruiting activities, which may include overnight stays.
  • The position requires effective communication and interaction with student-athletes, coaching staff, and the public.

 

Work Schedule:

  • Part-time, 10-month or 12-month position with a varying schedule.

 

SALARY:

  • Estimated yearly contract is $3,000.00 – $6,000.00 per year based on part-time hours.
