Job Description

This is a full-time, 12-month, non-exempt position that reports to the Director of Engagement located on JWCC’s main campus in Quincy, Illinois. Engagement with all JWCC regional centers will be central to this position.  Some local and out-of-state travel required.  Position begins immediately.

 

The Student Life Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and administering day-to-day activities in student life on campus and works with athletics to coordinate school spirit activities at both the JWCC Quincy campus and regional centers. Coordinator will be the staff advisor for the Event Planning Committee (Woodpile) and direct the Spirit Squad. This position will provide guidance and support for participation in co-curricular activities across a variety of student clubs and organizations including the development of new clubs as they are identified. The coordinator will provide help in planning, implementing, and evaluating all campus wide events. Collaboration with the other departments within academic, student affairs, and athletics is expected.  This position will also participate in supporting collection of co-curricular learning outcomes; and will involve full participation and facilitation during the weeks of graduation and orientation.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates day-to-day activities of student life on campus and spirit squad activities, in conjunction with Athletics, including cheer and dance team and mascot activities.
  • Develops professional relationships with the student body.
  • Promotes inclusive practices to reach and engage a diverse student population.
  • Represents Student Life at all New Student Orientation, Blazer Launch, and other student on-boarding activities.
  • Will attend student life activities when appropriate.
  • Explores and encourages ideas for new clubs.
  • Innovates and facilitates strategies to properly engage students with campus life.
  • Coordinates with the Office of Pathways to support student recruitment and retention.
  • Serves as primary advisor for the Event Planning Committee.
  • Promotes cross collaboration within institutional clubs and other Student Affairs’ departments.
  • Provides support to New Student Orientation.
  • Sets goals, priorities, and objectives around learning outcomes associated with Student Life.
  • Participates in one or more institutional committees on behalf of the student experience.
  • Assists with budget management for Student Life and subsequent axillary funds.
  • Assists with departmental events, meetings, and special projects as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience:

  • Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Experience in higher education or public institutions is a plus.

 

Skills & Competencies:

  • Knowledge and ability to relate to diverse populations and communicate effectively.
  • Must possess a strong understanding of student affairs and leadership development.
  • Knowledge in event planning and implementation preferred.
  • Knowledge of internal and external customer service principles and practices are essential.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily office-based with occasional travel for recruitment events and community outreach.
  • Work in well-lit, ventilated office spaces, as well as across campus.
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, lift, and move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Subject to frequent interruptions and interaction with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
  • Flexibility to work beyond regular hours, including weekends and holidays, when necessary.
  • Participation in ongoing professional development to stay informed about trends in the field.
  • Ability to manage the mental and emotional demands of the role.

 

Work Schedule:

  • Full-time position with a typical schedule of 36 hours per week with varying hours as needed

 

SALARY:

  • This is an exempt position with an estimated annually salary of $35,500.00 – $41,870.00.
