We offer help three ways: In-person, by email, and by Zoom video conference.
Writing Center Hours In-Person:
Closed for Summer Break.
Writing Center is closed on days classes are cancelled or campus is closed.
Virtual tutoring continues for the Writing Center.
A Zoom appointment is not required to get help. The tutor can work with you over email.
Students may submit their papers by email to the tutor or fill out the form and schedule tutoring session.
Please wait for an email response from the tutor to confirm your appointment request.
How Tutoring Works
Request an appointment and submit your paper to the tutor.
The writing center is open to provide in-person and asynchronous (not at the exact same time as submission) tutoring by filling out the appointment request form on this page or emailing writingcenter@jwcc.edu. Request the type of appointment you want: in-person, Zoom, or email.
Attach copies of your paper (Word, Google Docs, any text-based format) to your email. Provide relevant information about the type of writing assignment it is and criteria from your instructor; include rubrics if you have them. Please give specific details or questions about the help you need.
The Writing Center is staffed by one tutor. Wait for an email response from the tutor to confirm your appointment request. You should expect a response to your submission within 24 hours.
Your paper will be reviewed in the order that it was received.
Questions? Contact the writing center.
How can the Writing Center help you?
The Writing Center is available to all JWCC students, free of charge, who need help with essays, research papers, and other college writing assignments. Our staff can help you at any stage of the process: choosing and focusing a topic, planning and researching, note taking, formatting in MLA or APA, drafting, and revising. The Writing Center does not provide proofreading services. We are here to work with you one-on-one to provide the personal attention you need and to help you improve your writing skills. We will help you with specific problems and questions about your writing, research, and documentation.
Smarthinking is a free online tutoring resource available to all JWCC students. Get 24/7 help on a wide variety of subjects, including math, writing, science, nursing, and much more! You can access most subjects for a drop-in tutoring session at any time, and you can also schedule tutoring appointments if you like to plan ahead.
An online writing center is also available to review your essays, help with spelling/grammar, and even look over cover letters/résumés in preparation for the working world. Smarthinking is an excellent resource for students who would have difficulty meeting standard tutoring hours.
