What is Smart Start?
Want to make the most of your time and earn some college credit?
Then Smart Start is for you!
Smart Start is a program designed for High School students. It is an opportunity for students to earn college credits while still in high school.
Students can take advantage of Smart Start classes in several different ways. Courses offered in partnership with area high schools are considered dual credit. These courses are offered during the regular school day and often taught or monitored by high school teachers. Credit is issued from the high school and the college.
JWCC also offers courses that students can enroll in outside of the normal high school schedule. These courses are taught at a JWCC campus location or online. College credit will be issued once the course is successfully completed. Credits can be transferred to another academic institution or used when the student seeks a degree from JWCC.
Courses are available during the summer as well. This allows students to earn college credit and fulfill general education requirements for a college degree.
Final course registration is contingent upon parent/guardian, guidance counselor, and JWCC approval.
How do I sign-up for Smart Start classes?
High school students can search for course offerings by high school to see what is available. Students can download a copy of the registration form for their specific school. Please remember to have your High School Guidance Counselor and parent/guardian sign the form.
