The John Wood Community College Board of Trustees, meeting in regular session in Quincy Wednesday, December 12, voted to keep the College’s 2018 tax rate the same as 2017.

JWCC’s 2018 aggregate tax rate voted on by the board during the meeting is $0.36682 per $100 of Equalized Assessed Valuation (EAV) of property in the College’s district and excludes debt service.

A debt service component, approved in prior years when the debt was acquired, is combined with the aggregate rate.  The total rate for 2018 will be $0.42400, which is the same rate as 2017.  Due to increases in some property values, the 2018 rate is estimated to result in a $7,159,232 levy, which is $281,948 more than 2017.

An owner of a home in JWCC’s district valued at $100,000 in 2018 should expect to pay the same as last year, which is approximately $116.83. Funds from the 2018 levy will be distributed to the College in the 2019-20 fiscal year.

Trustees also approved entry into a contract with Klingner and Associates to update the JWCC Facilities Master Plan.

In other business, the board:

Adopted the 2020-2021 academic calendar.

Authorized $4,028 payment for the second half of Illinois Community College Trustee Association dues.

The next meeting will be held Wednesday, February 20 at 7 p.m. in Quincy.
