JWCC Unveils February Lineup of Personal Interest Courses

John Wood Community College (JWCC) will offer a diverse array of personal interest courses starting in February catering to the creative and culinary enthusiasts in the community. These courses, designed to nurture individual interests and skills, offer a perfect opportunity for individuals of all ages to engage in exciting and enriching experiences.

Beginning Knitting

Date: Tuesdays – February 06, 13, 20, 27

Time: 6:00-8:30 PM

Cost: $90.00

Dive into the world of knitting with our Beginning Knitting course. Led by Rachel Peterson, participants will embark on a journey to discover the art of knitting, from the basics of yarn handling to mastering essential stitches. Suitable for teens and adults, students are encouraged to work at their own pace, with a supply list provided upon registration.

 

Hand Built Ceramics

Date: Wednesdays – February 7, 14, 21

Time: 6:00-7:30 PM

Cost: $50.00

Explore your artistic side with Hand Built Ceramics. Instructor Rebecca Butler will guide participants through the process of creating functional pottery using slab and hand-building techniques. The first two classes focus on creation, while the third is dedicated to glazing. This course is open to both teens and adults.

 

Mindfulness on Mondays via Zoom

Date: Monday – February 12, March 4, and April 8

Time: 7:00pm – 8:00pm

Cost: $30.00

Join Dr. Margie Williams in an interactive session via Zoom, where you’ll learn how to incorporate mindfulness into your daily life. Discover relaxation and healing techniques suitable for all ages, promoting calm, mental clarity, and relaxation.

 

I Can Do This: Making your Diet more Mediterranean with trying New Recipes

Delve into the world of Mediterranean cuisine. This hands-on class invites participants to explore different recipes for side dishes and main entrees. Bring a paring knife and a container for the food made in class.

 

French Cuisine & A Love Affair with Butter

Date: Saturday – February 10, 2024

Time: 10:00am – 3:00pm

Indulge in the secrets of traditional French cooking just before Valentine’s Day. Instructor Vanessa Hall will guide participants through French techniques, offering a taste of how these methods can elevate your culinary skills. Bring a chef’s knife and containers to take home the delightful creations.

 

The Magic World of Herbs & Spices and How they Transform Food

Date: Wednesday- February 7, 2024

Time: 5:00pm – 8:00pm

Elevate your cooking with Vanessa Hall’s exploration of herbs and spices. Learn how to balance flavors and compliment everyday dishes with both common and lesser-known herbs and spices. Participants are encouraged to bring a chef’s knife and containers for takeaway.

 

Valentines Day Charcuterie Board

Date: Thursday – February 8, 2024

Time: 5:30pm -8:00pm

Join Crystal Yock in this interactive workshop and learn the art of styling a Valentine’s Day-themed charcuterie board. Gain insights into proper food handling, flavor profiling, and the history of charcuterie. Participants are required to bring an eight-inch chef’s knife.

 

Brunch Charcuterie Board

Date: Thursday- February 22, 2024

Time: 5:30pm – 8:00pm

Unleash your creativity with a brunch-themed charcuterie board workshop by Crystal Yock. Explore proper food handling, flavor profiling, and the history of charcuterie while styling your own board. Bring an eight-inch chef’s knife.

 

Charcuterie Crudites Board

Date: Thursday – February 29, 2024

Time: 5:30pm – 8:00pm

Cost: $65

In this hands-on workshop, Crystal Yock will guide you in creating a charcuterie vegetable board. Learn proper food handling techniques, food safety tips, flavor profiling, and the history of charcuterie. Bring a small paring knife and a vegetable peeler.
